About Sumzly
What we store
Sumzly reads the public RSS feeds of the active outlets on the Sources page. It keeps only each item's headline, the feed's own short description, its image and its link. It never copies article text. To read a story you always go to the publisher.
How stories are grouped
An AI model compares each new article's headline and snippet with stories from the last 48 hours and either adds it to one or starts a new story. Once a story has 3 or more outlets, the model writes a neutral headline, a short summary and a line on how each side framed it, using only the headlines and snippets collected. It rewrites them when coverage grows by 30% or more. Grouping can make mistakes.
How blindspots are defined
A story needs at least 6 sources with a bias rating. It is a blindspot for the Right when Right outlets make up 15% or less of them and Left outlets 50% or more. It is a blindspot for the Left the other way round.
How ratings work
Each outlet has a bias on a 7-point scale, from far left to far right, and a factuality rating. For display, far left, left and lean left count as Left; centre is Centre; lean right, right and far right count as Right. These ratings are our own, provisional and under review. They are not taken from any other rating service.
